BHSI Announces Key Leadership Changes in North America Casualty Division

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced several strategic leadership appointments to strengthen its North America casualty operations.

Matt Hale has been named Head of U.S. Casualty Underwriting Operations, where he will lead BHSI’s regional casualty underwriting teams across the U.S. and collaborate with Galan Riley, Head of Casualty, Canada, to align North American strategies. Hale is based in Chicago.

Marcie Stephan steps into the role of Head of Casualty, U.S. Central Region, overseeing all casualty underwriting teams in the Central U.S., excluding construction. She is also based in Chicago.

John Roe takes on the position of Head of North American Construction, where he will lead underwriting for Construction Casualty, Construction Professional Liability, and Homebuilders Liability. He will also support the expansion of construction casualty operations and align U.S. and Canadian strategies alongside Galan Riley. Roe is based in New York.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has elevated Anthony Tatulli to the newly expanded position of Head of Liability, Executive & Professional Lines. In addition to continuing his leadership of BHSI’s Executive & Professional (E&P) Lines business, Tatulli will now oversee the company’s Casualty and Healthcare divisions, as well as Customer & Broker Engagement in North America.

“Anthony has had tremendous success profitably growing our E&P Lines business and bringing BHSI’s stellar value proposition to the marketplace,” said Sanjay Godhwani, President of BHSI’s North America Region. “This new role will broaden his impact as he works closely with our Casualty, Healthcare, and Customer & Broker Engagement leaders to further strengthen and expand BHSI’s relationships throughout our liability lines.”

Tatulli joined BHSI in 2021 as Head of E&P Lines, bringing with him more than 30 years of industry experience across underwriting, claims, and legal. Before transitioning to the insurance sector, he spent eight years as an attorney. His expanded leadership role underscores BHSI’s commitment to strengthening its liability offerings and deepening industry relationships.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has strengthened its presence in Italy by appointing Francesco Longobardo as Head of Casualty in Milan. This move marks the company’s expansion into the Italian casualty market, reinforcing its commitment to local underwriting expertise.

“We are excited to continue our expansion, with Francesco leading our entrance into the casualty market in Italy,” said Leonardo Castrichino, Country Manager, Italy, BHSI. “He will also continue to build out the team that will bring our financially strong casualty capacity and CLAIMS IS OUR PRODUCT advantage to customers and brokers in Italy.”

Francesco brings over 20 years of insurance industry experience, including 17 years in senior liability underwriting roles at a global insurer. Earlier in his career, he worked in insurance brokerage, giving him a well-rounded perspective on the industry.

In his new role, Francesco will oversee underwriting for primary and excess casualty insurance across various industry sectors. Based in Milan, he will play a key role in driving BHSI’s growth and service excellence in Italy.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced two notable leadership changes in its UK operations. Andrew Hopper has joined as Head of Financial Institutions, UK, while Chris Nixon has been promoted to Underwriting Manager, Executive & Professional Lines, UK.

These appointments follow the upcoming retirement of Chris Warrior, the current Underwriting Manager for Executive & Professional Lines, UK, who will step down at the end of the year after a distinguished 42-year career in the financial lines market.

Jessica Kirby, Head of Executive & Professional Lines, UK, expressed pride in BHSI’s reputation and looked forward to working with the new appointees. She also commended Warrior for his impactful contributions, including building a strong team and fostering market relationships over the past five years.

Andrew Hopper brings over two decades of experience in financial lines, with expertise in financial institutions. He was previously Head of Financial Institutions, UK and Europe, at another insurer. Chris Nixon, with over ten years in the industry, has been with BHSI since 2019, advancing through various roles and earning his expanded responsibilities.

Both executives are based in London and will focus on continuing BHSI’s commitment to excellence in the UK market.

Vincenza “Cinzia” Viele has been named Head of Claims, while Alessandro Majerna will serve as Head of Professional Indemnity (PI) and Cyber for Executive & Professional Lines. Both will be based in Milan.

Country Manager Leonardo Castrichino expressed enthusiasm for the additions, highlighting BHSI’s commitment to providing top-tier claims service. “With our ‘CLAIMS IS OUR PRODUCT’ philosophy, it is particularly exciting that Vincenza is joining our leadership team to oversee delivery of our all-important product, exceptional claims service,” he stated.

Cinzia joins BHSI with over 24 years of experience in claims management, overseeing complex property and casualty cases for large corporate and multinational clients. Alessandro brings more than 15 years of expertise in professional indemnity and cyber insurance, making him well-suited to help BHSI grow in this sector.

Additionally, Jessie Yuen has been promoted to Head of Energy, Asia, succeeding Min Ong, who has moved to London as Underwriting Manager for Energy Property at BHSI. Jess Au will continue in her role as Head of General Property, Asia.

Marc Breuil, Head of Asia and the Middle East at BHSI, highlighted the company’s strong and profitable growth in Asia, attributing this success to the efforts of Kiran and Jessie. Kiran, who joined BHSI in 2015 and has nearly two decades of industry experience, has been instrumental in developing the company’s Construction business. Jessie, with over 20 years of experience in first-party lines, has played a key role in strategically positioning BHSI’s Energy Property portfolio in the market since joining the company in 2019.
